Israel Cancer Association - Annual Report 2024

Equipment, Construction and Development The ICA lends a hand in the construction, renovation and operation of oncology departments at medical centers across the country and funds the purchase of innovative state-of-the-art medical equipment at medical centers and oncology institutes. This support is facilitated only when an earmarked donation is received by the ICA, from which the organization takes no overhead, making certain that the medical institution to which the donation is allocated is prohibited from deducting overhead, so that the donation is transferred in full.

The ICA's Contribution in Construction, Renovation and Equipment Purchase for Medical Centers In 2024: • Assistance in the establishment of an Oncology Triage Unit at the Cancer Center in Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. The assistance was provided through a generous donation from the estate of the late Rafael Hadar . The Oncology Triage Unit was opened to provide the most comprehensive response possible to patients and their families.

Cancer patients often experience various health problems that require immediate attention and are referred to a general emergency room for this purpose. Despite the high professional level of emergency rooms teams, the staff operating the Oncology Triage Unit has a broader and deeper familiarity with the various issues related to cancer and their implications. The service offered in the Oncology Triage Unit provides a vital and even life saving response that cannot be provided within the framework of the general emergency room. • Assistance in funding a cold cap (scalp cooling or scalp hypothermia) for chemotherapy patients at Soroka Medical center in Beer Sheva. The device was donated by the ICA with assistance from the Soffi and Abraham Stuchinsky Fund . An ice cap is used to freeze the scalp during chemotherapy treatment. This treatment helps reduce and prevent hair loss among patients receiving treatment. The cap contains gel that cools the scalp and constricts blood vessels. The constriction of blood vessels leads to decreased blood flow, thereby reducing the penetration of chemicals into the hair follicles.
