Israel Cancer Association - Annual Report 2024
Israel Cancer Association // Annual Report 2024
2024 ”Door Knock”® Fundraising Campaign
The 63rd 'Door Knock'® fundraising campaign was scheduled to launch on October 16th, 2023, but was canceled due to the events of October 7th and the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas War. Therefore, the 'Door Knock'® fundraising campaign launched on September 30, 2024, was the 63rd campaign. The campaign, known in every household in Israel, is an integral part of the Israel Cancer Association's essence, connecting thousands of students, youth movement members, and volunteers to the ICA and its values. The annual fundraising campaign is extremely significant, aimed at helping fund the fight against cancer and various activities for patients, survivors, and their families. This year, the operation took place in the shadow of the Israel-Hamas War and the ongoing security threat, as well as teachers' strikes in high schools throughout the country. The security restrictions imposed by the Home Front Command and the desire to ensure children's safety prevented us from conducting the campaign in many areas in the north and south of Israel, and the traditional fundraising operation was partially held in safe areas. In fact, the campaign was conducted in three ways: traditional fundraising in neighborhoods and schools located in areas where the security situation allowed; internal fundraising in schools where door-to-door fundraising was not possible; and digital fundraising in schools where studies were conducted remotely. Although student participation rates were low compared to previous years due to the parents' concerns for their children's safety, participation in the campaign gave children a sense of routine and strengthened their desire to take part in social action. Students from hundreds of schools across the country, youth movement members, and additional volunteers visited the homes of Israeli residents and encouraged them to open their door and heart in support of the fight against cancer and for the benefit of cancer patients in Israel.
Like every year, recruitment of 'Door Knock'® fundraising campaign coordinators began in June 2024, and in August, a training was conducted for about 100 coordinators, preparing for all possible scenarios (security escalation, strikes, etc.). During the training, the coordinators were exposed to the various activities ICA offers in rehabilitation and support for cancer patients, as well as public outreach, learned the regional operation protocol, and received the necessary tools for the campaign.
