We need help and support “I’m fifty years old and I feel as if I’m just learning to walk. I need Mom and Dad, nourishment, accompaniment, and assistance in all areas of life. But I’m alone in the world, I have no one, and I’m barely living and barely getting by.” b. Try to understand us “Understand that we were hurt from a young age and frightened and exploited. It’s very hard for us to trust people and our surroundings. It leaves very deep scars and voices that stay in your head, flashbacks, anxiety, and all kinds of stuff. Try to understand our fears and worries and how the abuse impacts us today.” | 3. Save us: On the importance of preventing child sexual abuse Survivors from all parts of Israeli society voiced the request to take responsibility for the safety of children and the prevention of sexual abuse. This appeal to society raised three main issues: the perceptions of survivors regarding the difficulty of receiving aid and support while the abuse is occurring; the consequences of not preventing the abuse; and instructions and recommended prevention strategies. Messages to child sexual abuse victims, from the testimonies The survivors chose to convey messages to child victims of sexual abuse, based on their personal experiences and desire to make their voice heard and speak to the children they once were, and the children currently suffering abuse. The testimonies revealed seven main messages to children undergoing sexual abuse.
