Lyra is one of the oldest pencil trademarks in the world. Johann Froescheis began producing pencils in Nuremberg in 1806. For over 200 years Lyra has been synonymous with Made-in-Germany innovation and quality and today the brand is well-known the world over. Since the very beginning, the production of Lyra pencils has been based on strict rules that guarantee quality both in the choice of rawmaterials and in the manufacturing process. At the end of the 1800s the Lyra Orlow pencil became the company’s leading product giving it international success. In 1900 Lyra had 500 employees and every year produced 53 million pencils. In the interwar period, Lyra expanded significantly, becoming market leader in Germany and Italy. After the 1945 bombing which destroyed the factory, a new period of growth began, bringing with it great innovations to logistics and production, with special attention being paid to quality control systems, one of the company’s most recognised strong points.
