KNOWLEDGE DISSEMINATION, BRANDING AND MARKETING Nobody’s Children – Children at Risk Poems A book by Yehuda Atlas

At the beginning of 2020 the decision was made to publish the new poetry book by Yehuda Atlas about children at risk. It is of great importance in exposing the wider public as well as professionals to the phenomenon of maltreated children, in acting as an educational tool for professionals, and in expanding the diversity of skills to cope with and treat children at risk. The book assembles over 170 children’s testimonials of their neglect or abuse, presented as rhymed poems. Atlas labored over the book for several years, interviewing dozens of people maltreated as children, and he tells their stories in his unique prose. In working on the book, we discovered the extent to which it stands to contribute to changing the field of Haruv Institute operation, and response has been heartwarming and encouraging. The poet relates to native Israeli children as well as children of immigrants, whose experience at home is that of humiliation, neglect, a broken home, going to sleep hungry, a family member abusing them. The book in indexed by maltreatment experienced: violence and abuse, education, illness, distress, family, etc. Atlas’s poems give a place and a voice to the pain of children who suffer neglect and abuse. They are always important and meaningful, but it is appropriate that they be heard and resonate with us all the more in these chaotic times. The book was completed at the end of 2020, but the benefits of publishing it shall continue with us for years.
