CHILD MALTREATMENT PREVENTION INITIATIVEs
ChilD Maltreatment Prevention Campaign Yearlong
Objective: influencing public opinion, developing awareness to the phenomenon of child maltreatment and prevention methods, and raising the issue to the center of public discourse in Israel. This campaign emphasizes promoting suspected maltreatment reporting, detecting and identifying signs of maltreatment, protecting children in the digital space, and public access to information regarding response and assistance. Two components were highlighted this year: 1. Developing awareness of the Arab society in Israel. Along with continuing the campaign Arabic and Hebrew Facebook pages, a Facebook group for Arab parents opened in June, with the purpose of creating discourse and building a community around child advocacy and violence prevention. The group has 700 members – parents and professionals. Also, weekly interviews were held with professionals from various fields on the topic of child maltreatment prevention, on Radio Shams And Musawa TV channel. 2. Production of a virtual manual for parents in cases of suspected violence against their children (Hebrew). The manual consists of 13 brief videos that encompass necessary information for parents and significant adults, in clear and simple language, compiled by people in the field, some even child victims themselves. Topics: types of violence against children, identifying signs, acting on a suspicion, information on therapeutic and legal courses, addresses for consultation and care, mandatory reporting, domestic child maltreatment by an adult, violence among siblings, divorce conflict, caring for a violent child, and others. The manual is scheduled to be launched in 2022.
