The story of Gizela - Afik Shiraz. Abinun Shmuel

This is my cousin Nella (Nelka, as we called her) On right as a girl and on left with her husband Jozi Baruch (1941)

During the war, Nelka joined the partisans and demonstrated extraordinary resourcefulness and courage. On her last day she was in a bunker, and through the small slits she shot the Ustasha and Germans outside, each time through a different crevice, so that the enemies would believe that some fighters were in the bunker. She kept the last ball to herself. Her heroic story is documented at Yad Vashem. Shortly after the wedding, Jozi was taken to the Croatian Jasenovac camp, from which he did not return. Their marriage lasted a few months.

Leon Alkalay, born in 1929, Nelka's brother, who participated in the "Lira" choir and in the school choir. He perished in one of the Yugoslav extermination camps
