Research

The Israel Cancer Association plays a key role in supporting research and prevention of cancer diseases in Israel. Each year, the ICA awards dozens of research fellowships to physicians in medical centers and researchers in universities and research institutes across the country. The ICA supports basic, clinical and epidemiological research, as well as researches examining the psycho-social aspects of cancer and coping patterns of cancer patients and their families. The ICA Research Committee, headed by Prof. Eli Pikarsky from the Hebrew University, is comprised of the finest researchers and clinicians in Israel’s research and medical institutions. The committee is coordinated by Lili Biller-Lev , ICA Deputy Director General and Committees and Projects Director. The Israel Jacob and Lila Alther Environmental Epidemiology Research Foundation Dr. Artzy-Schinrman Arbel from Rambam Medical Center, for her research on “Airway-on-chip Platform for Setting Air VOC Pollutants Thresholds based on Dormant Cancer Awakening assay.” Dr. Galit Hirsh-Yechezkel from Sheba Medical

Center, for her research on “Cancer Incidence among Beekeepers” Outstanding Research Grants Were Awarded to: • Prof. Yehudit Bergman from The Hebrew University, for her research on “Intestinal microbiota-induced DNA methylation changes affect cancer.” • Dr. Uri Yoel from Soroka Medical Center, for his research on “Thyroglobulin Point of Care Assay for Rapid Detection of Metastatic Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma – a Multi-Center Validation Study.” • Dr. Aldema Sas-Chen from Tel Aviv University, for her research on “Role of snoRNA-guided RNA modifications in development of breast cancer metastasis.” • Prof. Israel Vlodavsky from the Technion, for his research on “Mode of action and significance of heparanase-2 (Hpa2) in pancreatic cancer.” • Dr. Assaf Bester from the Technion, for his research on “Studying the potential of CYTOR IncRNA as a new therapeutic target for cancer.”
