70 YEARS OF ACTIVITY For Cancer Patients
Israel Cancer Association // Annual Report 2022
2021-2022 ‘Door Knock’ ® Fundraiser Campaign The ICA’s 61st ‘Door Knock’ ® Fundraising Campaign*
‘Door Knock’® is not merely a fundraising campaign but a means of educating youth on health, a topic the ICA promotes throughout the year. This is the second year the campaign was led under COVID-19 regulations, with more than 800 school kids, volunteers and youth movement branches across the country knocked on the doors of Israel’s citizens, urging them to open their hearts in support of the fight against cancer to benefit cancer patients. The campaign was simultaneously launched in its online digital format. Each year, the ICA runs lectures to hundreds of thousands of school kids on adopting a healthy life style which reduces the risk of cancer. This year, despite the lengthy challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic, we did not forgo educating students on adopting a healthy life style. The 2021 ‘Door Knock’® fundraising campaign was also affected by the pandemic and lockdowns. Therefore, preparation took place on all fronts: external fundraising by knocking on doors, internal donations within schools and organizations, and online donations. Recruiting information coordinators, students and team members was challenging, and some of ICA’s employees assisted in giving lectures in schools. Despite the challenge of sending schools kids knocking on doors under COVID restrictions, as the campaign date approached, the response from schools increased, and the students were excited and determined to partake in the cause. Aside from benefitting cancer patients, the campaign teaches the students about the values of giving, caring for others and about mutual responsibility. Donating via QR Code For the first time, ‘Door Knock’® fundraising campaign received donations by scanning the QR code attached
to the fundraising kit, enabling donors to donate directly on ICA’s website instead of cash.
‘Door Knock’® Fundraising Campaign The opening ceremony of the annual ‘Door Knock’® Fundraising Campaign and the beginning of ICA’s activity year was launched as usual in the presence of Israel’s president, who has served as the patron of the ICA for many years. This year, President Isaac “Bougie” Herzog and his wife, Michal Herzog , opened the ceremony for the first time during their term.
The opening ceremony, held at the president’s residence on October 3rd, held a special meaning, since the president, Isaac Herzog , is the son of the sixth Israeli president, Chaim Herzog OBM , and Ora Herzog , sister to Suzy Eban OBM , the founding president of the Israel Cancer Association, who turned a small group of volunteers into the largest volunteer-based organization in Israel leading the fight against cancer diseases and reaching national and international achievements.
