The Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences, University of Haifa

The Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences (CSMS), Israel’s largest academic center for marine sciences, applies a global, interdisciplinary approach through its four sections: Marine Geosciences, Marine Biology, Marine Technologies, and Maritime Strategies. Leading the Mediterranean Sea Research Center of Israel (MERCI), CSMS addresses scientific, technological, economic, security, and environmental challenges in the Mediterranean and along Israel’s coastline. Based at the Carmel Mountain Campus, its facilities include three coastal research centers, underwater vehicle development, and long-term ecological monitoring stations, with research extending globally and to the coral reefs of the Red Sea through a field laboratory in Eilat.
