סיכום דה-קונטמינציה של פני השתל היא שלב מרכזי בטיפול בפרי-אימפלנטיטיס. למרות מגוון הטכניקות הקיימות, עדיין לא הוגדר פרוטוקול טיפול יחיד הנחשב ליעיל ביותר. הגישה המקובלת כיום מדגישה שילוב של טכניקות מכאניות, ולעיתים גם אמצעים כימיים או פיזיקליים משלימים, בהתאם למורפולוגיית הפגם ולמאפייני השתל. מחקר עתידי צפוי להמשיך ולשפר את יכולתנו להשיג ניקוי יעיל של פני שתלים ולשפר את תוצאות הטיפול במחלות סביב שתלים.
