Aim: This course focuses on the phenomenon of child abuse and neglect, especially: the etiology of child abuse and neglect; the experience of children growing up in homes where abuse and neglect is present; the impact of trauma on brain architecture; the occurrence of child abuse and neglect in state, national, and international contexts; understanding the multidisciplinary perspective of prevention, identification, and treatment of child abuse and neglect. It will also address child abuse and neglect in the context of social justice. Target audience: BA students of different fields

OU Trauma-Informed Treatments for Children January – May 2023 Partners: The University of OK

Aim: The purpose of this course is to increase students’ understanding of the impact of trauma on child and family functioning and to build skills for case planning and treatment implementation, in order to decrease child distress due to trauma. Students will be exposed to at least six models of treatment designed for children who have experienced trauma and will practice the techniques of these models / approaches to treatment. Students will also practice foundational skills for adaptive self-care to support their wellbeing as social workers. Target audience: MA social work students
