INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH AND ACTIVITIES
The Fifth International Workshop for Doctoral Students, the Haruv Institute December 2017 Goal: The international workshop for doctoral students was held for the fifth time. The workshop brings together experts and doctoral students – from Israel and abroad – whose research focuses on maltreated children, and provides the participants with a unique opportunity to receive feedback on their doctoral thesis at different stages of their research. During the workshop, social and professional ties are formed that serve as an infrastructure for a wide network of young researchers throughout the world, who promote the vision of the Haruv Institute as being a leading world center in researching the phenomenon of maltreated children. Target Population: Doctoral students.
Number of Sessions: A three-day workshop
Participants: 14 doctoral students from 8 countries: Finland, United States, Brazil, Germany, Holland, Croatia, Portugal and Israel
Location: The Haruv Institute, Mt Scopus campus, the Hebrew University, Jerusalem

The Second Haruv International Conference – December 2017 The second international conference, on “Child Maltreatment in Context”, was held in early December at the Hebrew University Mt. Scopus campus. There were 130 participants from Israel, United States, Germany, Italy, Spain, Finland and Portugal, representing a wide range of professions, services and academic institutions in the fields of social work, psychology, health and mental health, education and law. In addition to the plenary lectures, six parallel sessions were held, which included over one hundred symposiums and lectures on a variety of aspects of the subject of the conference. Additionally, a cultural evening was held (in Hebrew), presenting the topic from the perspective of literature and theatre, and was received with great excitement by those attending the event. Target Population: Researchers and professionals.

Feedback:
During the two days of the conference, I experienced and witnessed the fine, important work being done in the field of preventing violence towards children. I discovered the importance of cooperation and the connection between us and experts in the field from all over the world. I discovered that we have a joint professional and academic future.
