THE ISRAELI INDEPENDENT PUBLIC INQUIRY INTO CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE Yearlong Partner: Tel Aviv University

Objective: making the voices of childhood victims heard in policy-change proceedings, for the benefit of child victims. The Inquiry began operating July 2020 in collaboration with Haruv Institute. The director of MeHalev - The Child Abuse Prevention Initiative is also a member of the inquiry working to gather testimonies from childhood victims, using the main themes and learning form their experience to promote policy change in the field of prevention, detection and treatment of maltreated children. Testimonies and data gathered will be utilized as means of promoting policy change to improve existing services for sexually abused children. Areas requiring change will be examined and a conclusion report will be produced based upon analysis of these testimonies. In the beginning of 2022 the inquiry report was launched in a festive ceremony, in the presence of President and Mrs. Herzog, the inquiry members and representatives of the activist core of childhood victims who worked with the the inquiry. In addition, deliberation on primary presentation of the report findings to the Knesset committee on child rights was held.

Participants: over 500 childhood victims who gave testimony
