הרפואה והפסיכופיזיולוגיה בלבד היא מוגבלת, ומומלץ לשנותה. דווקא נשות ואנשי מקצוע בתחום בריאות הנפש, עבודה סוציאלית, ריפוי בעיסוק ופסיכולוגיה, שאמונים על פיתוח ידע ופרקטיקה אינטגרטיביים, כדאי שינכיחו את הגוף בתוך תהליכי האבחון, הטיפול וחקר התגובות להתעללות בילדות. תפיסה אינטגרטיבית שכזאת, המביאה בחשבון את המערך המורכב של הקשרים בין היבטים נפשיים, גופניים, בין-אישיים, חברתיים ופוליטיים, נדרשת כעת ביתר שאת – כדי לקדם את הידע שלנו על הנגזרות של טראומה בכלל, ושל התעללות בילדות בפרט.
