לב התהליך הטיפולי, כפי שעולה מתפיסת ההורים, הוא הקשר – קשר טיפולי מבוסס אמון, הכלה ושיתוף פעולה, אשר מהווה בסיס להתרחשות השינוי. קשר זה לא רק תומך בילד, אלא גם מחזק את ההורה ומאפשר לו לשוב ולתפוס את עצמו כדמות מגינה, יציבה ומשמעותית עבור ילדו. בסופו של דבר, הממצאים מדגישים כי טיפול בילדים צעירים שנחשפו לטראומה אינו יכול להתמקד בילד בלבד. כאשר ההורה מקבל מקום מרכזי בתהליך, מתאפשרת לא רק הפחתה של סימפטומים, אלא גם יצירת חוויה מתקנת להורות עצמה – חוויה המהווה מקור לחוסן.
