הנפשיים במחלקה הניתנים לילדים, להורים ולעיתים גם לאחים, השמים דגש על חיזוק כוחותיהם והעצמה של כל גורם במשפחה, תוך התבוננות על המערכת המשפחתית בכללותה, מסייעים בהתמודדות עם המחלה ולעיתים גם לאחריה. לסיכום, הצוות הפסיכוסוציאלי ער להפרעה של השלכות המחלה על תהליכי התבגרות תקינים, הכוללים השגת אוטונומיה, עיסוק בדימוי גוף וחיבור לקבוצת השווים כחלק מגיבוש הזהות העצמית. בהמשך לכך, יחד עם הצוות הרפואי נעשית עבודה מתואמת על מנת למתן השלכות אלו ולשמור על בריאותו הנפשית של המתבגר/הבוגר הצעיר.
